THE AWARDS PROGRAMME

In the week preceding the 12th Annual Old Mutual Vukani Fashion Awards, various activities have been planned. There will be a 4-day enterprise exhibition, 3-day Financial and entrepreneurial seminars and workshops, the African Pride Awards Gala Dinner and on the final day, we will showcase the finalists at the Young Designers Fashion Awards.

·         Enterprise Exhibition

This is a platform where businesses, large and small, in the fashion and related industries are offered an opportunity to showcase and promote their products and services.

 This is aimed at:

  • Increasing business linkages between fashions designers and related enterprises.
  • Increasing the opportunity for enterprises to participate in procurement and sub-contracting opportunities.
  • Offering interaction opportunity for both South African and international fashion designers for potential networking.

·         African Pride Award

This is an award that recognizes an African that truly represents our continent, through their preservation of our artistic culture in a manner that is both inspiring and progressive. These recipients are selected from different generations and role models from a wide spectrum of our society.  This prestigious award goes to one recipient every year at a gala dinner.

·         Seminar and Workshop

The seminar and workshop provides fashion designers and entrepreneurs with information on business development. The seminar and workshop presentations will address the following themes:

  • Impact of clothing and textile industry in South Africa
  • A look at the fashion trends and its influences
  • Various support services for entrepreneurs, such as access to business finance and financial services, markets and business development services
  • Emerging and young fashion designers entrepreneurs operating their businesses in formal premises.

·         Young Designers Fashion Award

The highlight of the Old Mutual Vukani Fashion Awards is the Young Designers Fashion Award aimed at profiling, developing and marketing young fashion designers. 12 young finalists have been selected. The journey to selecting these finalists included presentations at various institutions offering fashion design and assessing storyboards applications received from the entrants.

Young designers have been given a theme brief for the creation of their designs. The theme for the 12th Annual Old Mutual Vukani Fashion Awards is – Evolution “76”, as this will be the 30th year, after South Africa’s June 1976 uprising. At the day of the award the youth designers will be judged as to how they have depicted the era and fused it with future fashion trends.
